苏禄苏丹王国是一个建立于15世纪的古国，那是400百多年前的事了，目前己不存在。可是，在历史上，它的确曾经存在于今日的菲律宾南部一带。史载，当年汶莱苏丹为感谢苏禄苏丹协助平息叛乱，把沙巴州的东北部土地作为礼物割让给苏禄苏丹…

苏绿苏丹王国与沙巴的渊源

大约200多年前，英国殖民势力来到东南亚，向苏禄苏丹租借沙巴，作为商业贸易的据奌，但条件是要提供武器给苏丹，以便应付西班牙的侵略。不过，后来苏禄苏丹还是被西班牙所灭，成为西班牙统治下菲律宾殖民地的一部份。不久之后，英国与西班牙两大殖民者达致协议，将沙巴划归给英国在北婆罗洲的殖民地所管辖。公元1878年，苏禄苏丹将沙巴租给英属北婆罗洲公司。
