联合国开发计划署公佈《2013年人类发展报告》，马来西亚取得0.769的人类发展指数，在187个国家和地区中排名第64位，属高人类发展水平国。

其中，大马在过去22年来，国民总收入增长了191%，即从1980年的国民总收入4692美元（约1万4600令吉）增至2012年的1万3676美元（约4万2533令吉）。

根据联合国开发计划署文告，马来西亚今年的成绩比高人类发展水平区的平均分数0.758来得高，也较东亚及太平洋区的平均分数0.683高出许多。在这次的报告中，大马与利比亚、塞尔维亚並列第64位。
